Nahid Kazemi, an Iranian illustrator residing\u00a0in Canada, won Joanne Fitzgerald Award\u00a0of one-month residence at the Toronto Public\u00a0Library. The Program – and the annual award\u00a0\u2013 was launched in 2013 to honor Joanne\u00a0Fitzgerald, a renowned Canadian illustrator\u00a0of children\u2019s literature (1956-2011).<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Program provides children\u2019s books illustrators\u00a0with the opportunity of a one-month residency\u00a0at a public library in Canada, during\u00a0which they can perform programs for both\u00a0children and adults.\u00a0The Program \u2013 and the award \u2013 are a joint\u00a0project of the Canadian Chapter of the International\u00a0Board on Books for Young People\u00a0(IBBY Canada), the Canadian Urban Libraries\u00a0Council and participating libraries which\u00a0have included the Toronto Public Library and\u00a0the Edmonton Public Library.<\/p>\n
The Program awards a jury-selected, published\u00a0Canadian children\u2019s book illustrator\u00a0with a residency at a Canadian urban library\u00a0each October. The winning Illustrator in Residence
\nleads a program which explains and\u00a0promotes children\u2019s book illustration. Past\u00a0winners join experts from the participating\u00a0library and IBBY Canada as jurists for the\u00a0following year.
\nKazemi, holding BA and MA Degrees in\u00a0visual arts from Iranian universities, has thus\u00a0far illustrated 60 books for children, which\u00a0have been published in Iran, Canada, US, and\u00a0Europe.<\/p>\n
During her stay at the North Branch of\u00a0Toronto Public Library during the month of\u00a0October, she plans to hold art courses for students\u00a0and evening workshops for adolescents\u00a0and adults as well as presenting lectures in art\u00a0departments and colleges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
