At a meeting held by National Library of Iran on June 26th, the role of education, art and literature in combating violence against children was discussed. The participants in the meeting, a group of academics, artists and writers as well as two members of the Research and Education Committee of the Majlis (Iranian Parliament) discussed the status of children’s rights in Iran and the challenges of preventing violence against children.
In the course of the meeting, the deputies informed the participants of the state of deliberations in the Majlis on the bills under discussion in this regard.
At the end of the meeting, Bozorgmehr Hosseinpour’s painting entitled “Nail” – honoring the occasion of the “International Day of Non-violence against Children” – was unveiled, and donated by the painter to the National Library and Archives of Iran. At a s u b s e q u e n t ceremony, to be attended by the painter and the other members of the meeting, the painting will be installed inside the Library premises as a symbol of collective efforts to combat violence against children.
