On November 14, 2024, the Guild Studies Committee held in the context of the 8th annual Congress of Information Science Specialists. The committee aimed to analyze the impact of artificial intelligence on jobs in information science and knowledge studies. Before this event, two pre-sessions titled “Impact of information science on jobs: a brainstorm” and “Impact of information science on jobs: macro issues and approaches” were held on August 4 and October 8, 2024, respectively.

In the first pre-session, the challenges and opportunities in the impact of AI on the jobs of information science and knowledge studies were mentioned. The second pre-session referred to the macro topics and different approaches in this field. The discussions on these pre-sessions provided the basis for analyzing the impact of AI on careers in information science and knowledge studies in the final session.

In the final meeting, the committee secretary, Mr. Ebrahim Emrani, referred to the results of the previous discussions. Dr. Maziar Amirhosseini presented an article entitled “Analysis of the various approaches to the Impact of AI on the Jobs of Information Science and Knowledge Studies”. The next presenter, Dr. Khosravi Focused on the “Macro analysis of the mentioned impact”, and Mr. Masoudi presented some risk factors for careers in the AI era.

Finally, the committee secretary presented the closing statement of the session while emphasizing the challenges and opportunities in the aforementioned topics. The final statement underlined the importance of retraining opportunities for employees, students, and professors in the fields of information science and knowledge studies, as well as the development of universities’ curricula based on current developments in AI. This committee believes that the Librarianship and Information Sciences Association of Iran should be active in the above fields.
