Dr. Asadi, the secretary of the University Libraries Session, emphasized the importance of understanding and utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) in academic and specialized libraries. AI has the potential to improve resource accessibility, enhance reference services, and make collection management more efficient. By automating routine tasks such as cataloging, collection management, and reference services, AI allows librarians to focus on higher-level responsibilities like information literacy instruction and research support.

However, implementing AI systems in university libraries presents challenges. Effective AI systems require substantial computational power, data storage, and network infrastructure, which can be costly to establish and maintain. Additionally, operating AI systems necessitates specialized knowledge and skills. This session will tackle essential questions: How should university libraries face AI? What are the capacities and capabilities of AI for academic libraries? What challenges and limitations do AI systems face in academic and specialized libraries? What are some practical solutions and successful examples for building capacity and implementing AI in these field? And, what qualities should university and specialized librarians possess to successfully implement AI systems and engage users?

Through collaboration with experts across fields, this session aims to answer these questions and develop actionable solutions. Dr. Asadi invites all academic and specialized librarians to participate in the session, as a thorough understanding of AI’s components and implications will be crucial for effective implementation.

This event will provide a valuable platform for professional exchange and growth. We encourage our colleagues in university and specialized libraries to join the main session discussions, share their insights, and contribute to a successful congress with maximum participation from experts, students, librarians, and professors in the field.
